The Boone area is home to very popular family amusement attractions.  Since 1957, Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock has been a favorite family destination.  The original coal-fired train engine, Tweetsie, follows a 3 mile loop and gives children the opportunity to experience the Old Wild West, to fight off robbers and renegades, to listen to great old time music, and eat some great food.  A family destination for almost 6 decades, Tweetsie Railroad is a Boone area staple.

At Mystery Hill in Blowing Rock, the forces of gravity and popular physics are a little off!  You can watch a ball roll uphill or experience water flowing uphill instead of down!  Also dating back 50 years, Mystery Hill is a High Country Staple that families have flocked to because of its unusual appeal.  The “Mystery House” (where gravity doesn’t quite work the way it should) is not the only thing to see at this attraction.  The “Hall of Mystery” gives children the opportunity to try hands-on puzzles and experiments that test scientific and mathematical theories!

The Blowing Rock is North Carolina’s oldest travel attraction.  Since 1933, The Blowing Rock has been luring guests to experience the legend of the Rock, which sits on a 4,000 foot cliff.  The Blowing Rock is so called because, when a light object is thrown over the edge of the cliff, the northwest wind sweeps with such force in to the gorge, that the object is returned to the top of the cliff where it started!

The Mast General Store in Boone, NC has welcomed customers since 1883 with the saying “If you can’t buy it here, you don’t need it.”  Selling everything from “cradles to caskets”, the Mast General Store now provides everything from fine candy (presented in huge barrels for the pickin’) to outdoor wear to kitchen flatware.
