Through the years Boone North Carolina has become the hub of commerce in the North Carolina High Country area offering virtually everything a resident or visitor can desire.
Still today, the main street of downtown Boone, King Street, still possesses the nostalgic feel of the early days. Private businesses, restaurants, shops and boutiques line downtown Boone NC and give it an old time air, while the architectural buildings of Appalachian State University serve as a modern backdrop for this vibrant mountain town.
Another modern convenience utilized and appreciated by the local community is the Appalachian Regional Healthcare System, the healthcare mecca providing comprehensive services for the surrounding communities. Linking patients with the care they need in the community gives a sense of safety in the town.
The Town of Boone's history began in the early 1800's and all that existed was a dirt road. When a post office entered town, more and more stores and homes were built. Remaining a small town for over 100 years, the foundation of Appalachian State University as a four-year institution in the 1950's and 60's, created an opportunity for the town to grow in not only diversity, but in breadth of entertainment as well. Drawing students from all over the world, Appalachian State University has helped the town of Boone grow into a diverse sanctuary for thrill seekers and adventure lovers of all ages.
